bbq update for absolutely no one:

they decided to buy meat instead of grill, so i couldn’t bring anything over. they had three kinds of meat, broccoli salad with bacon, beans with pork, and ~~pasta~~ mayo salad—the one thing w/o meat! so i ate some of that, some desperately undercooked pie, and the only alcohol they had was bud light strawberry lime-a-ritas, which are too sweet, and not strong enough, so i had three and a half, because fuck it.

now i’m home, bored and tipsy, but all alone and i want to talk, but there’s nothing to talk about and no one to talk to, so instead i’m thinking about how much i hate phone blogging. which is just about as much as i hate motherfucking bacon.

Taken near Bixby Bridge north of Big Sur, CA, this is a 12 shot vertical panorama taken around 4 am this past Monday, when the Milky Way was pretty high in the sky. The glow near the horizon is a lighthouse just around the bend.

I will say that where you’re half not with me, I totally understand. And I’m probably a lot harder on Cosima precisely because I identified with her early on. And that heady, intense feeling you mentioned between Cosima and Delphine was what initially made me so exhilarated to see onscreen. It israre! And it’s something I can identify with. But I started to (as you put it) become actively disinterested in their relationship, when it became clear that Delphine was sexually manipulating Cosima and the narrative didn’t really give any clear indication that Delphine’s investment had to do with having a personal relationship with Cosima (sexually or not) beyond her espionage. Sure, there was a little of that in the beginning, but even then it was usually Cosima initiating contact, and once Leekie became involved, it was more about him and getting Cosima to come along to meet him than anything else.

And while I would absolutely, completely prefer if they were both upfront with not being upfront with each other, I could handle it seemed like they were on a levelplaying field otherwise. That they werebothsointoxicated by each otherthatthey couldn’t help to be drawn to each other despite knowing they shouldn’t. But that’s not how it’s playing out right now. (As a side note, that’s why I am also so meh over Sarah/Paul, because Paul seems much more invested in their relationship than Sarah is.) Currently it’s Cosima who is blinded by her heady attraction and Delphine is using that to her advantage to sexually manipulate her with little else from Delphine’s POV to indicate otherwise. It was ok when it was still platonic (with heavy sexual chemistry undertones), but once Leekie told Delphine to use that to her advantage and she did, I was too busy grimacing to ship anything. That squickiness trumps any canon queerness for me. Which sucks, because wahh, I WANT to be invested in intellectual CANONICALLY QUEER LADIES, and I totally WAS at first, but the writing just isn’t letting me do that right now. Theoretically, I could get invested in their relationship again, but it would take a lot more humility from both of them, more POV from Delphine, reality checks for Cosima, and like, 10000% less Leekie between them. But it seems like the narrative has been hurtling towards more Leekie, not less, so mostly, I just find myself going “ugh” a lot, especially when I saw the potential for something great between Cosima/Delphine.

YOU. ok, writing it in caps like that made it seem weird and pervy, when i actually meant that i feel a sisterhood in the “FUCK BACON!!!!” camp. the other day i was at a farmers market at there was homemade cheese bread that i would have totally bought but it also had fucking bacon in it and this little kid tried a sample and spit it out because he didn’t like the bacon in it and i wanted to high five that fucking kid and carry him around and yell at everyone to listen to this kid because FUCK BACON. which probably wouldn’t have been good for my creepo factor, so it’s probably a good thing i just smiled and bought the pesto bread instead.

usually birthday celebrations are fun things to be invited to. but this one went from a nice dinner out and became “fun bbq!” instead.

there is nothing quite so stressful as being a vegetarian invited to an omni bbq. it’s all a tender balance of knowing how many dishes will be offered, which dishes will be perfectly good sides that get fucked up with bacon all over them, if you should waste time preparing and bringing a dish you’ll have to take half home anyway, or if someone will be thoughtful enough to buy a pack of veggie burgers for you or if you should just bring your own veggie burgers or if you do bring veggie burgers only to show up and find out they’re grilling chicken or whatever and don’t have any buns/fixins and you’re stuck with a plain, dry, bunless burger and you should have stopped at the fancy grocery store and picked up a tofu steak from the cold case, and is it rude to just say fuck it and bring a pan of veggies and ask for 8” of grill space so you don’t end up getting sick from only ingesting the nasty mayo-laden potato salad and a shit ton of alcohol and if you do bring the pan of veggies, how many will you actually get when everyone else sees how much better they look compared to that insipid mayo salad anyway.

basically it sucks.
